Bill Mealer, age 69, of Alabaster, Alabama, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was a genuinely Christian man, as well as a loving husband, proud father, doting "Gramps," and a faithful friend.
Born in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Bill retired from BellSouth/AT&T with 35 years as a project manager. His military service includes seven years in the National Guard. He was a member of Riverchase Church of Christ in Hoover, Alabama.
Family and friends will cherish memories of Bill's dry humor, his "life of the party" personality, and his love of all things Facebook. His achievement of "Karaoke Rock Star" status was reminiscent of his earlier years of performing as a drummer in country and rock n' roll bands.
Aside from watching Alabama Crimson Tide football, one of his favorite pastimes was walking with his family along the sandy seashores of the Florida Gulf Coast.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Lida Hattie O'Guin Mealer and Hilliard Earl Mealer; and one sister, Marjorie Ann Mealer.
Survivors include Bill's loving wife, Susan Lewis Mealer, to whom he was married on May 22, 1999 in Birmingham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Mandy Mealer of Maylene, Alabama, and Tim and Michele Mealer of Talladega, Alabama; step-daughter, Shannon St. John and her husband Shane St. John of Trussville, Alabama; step-son, Wesley Seals of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Cody Mealer of Hoover, Emily Mealer of Columbiana, Alabama, Jeremiah Mealer and Savannah Mealer of Maylene, Lindsey Mealer of Pelham, Alabama, and Ivy St. John and Owen St. John of Trussville; and two brothers, Art Mealer of Paris, Tennessee, and Earl Mealer and his wife Sandy Mealer of Puryear, Tennessee.
Family and friends will gather for A Memorial Celebration of Bill's Life at a later date. Arrangements will be posted at www.SouthernHeritageFunerals.com soon.
