Bennie Lee "Buck" Waldrop, Jr., age 74, of the Lay Lake community of Shelby, AL, passed away Friday evening, October 9, 2015.
Buck graduated from Auburn University in 1962. He worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for 22 years until his retirement as a vice president. After retirement, he established Lay Lake Construction.
Buck's hobbies included spending time with his family, fishing on Lay Lake, deep sea fishing, vacationing at Orange Beach, and sitting on the balcony with "My Girl," his wife Linda.
Predeceasing Buck were his parents, B.L. "Bobby" Waldrop Sr. and Sarah McCain Waldrop.
Survivors include Buck's wife of 54 years, Linda McGill Waldrop; one daughter, Tracy Waldrop Cato (Chris); one son, Terry Lynn Waldrop (Cyndie); grandchildren, Ricky Watson (Missy), Stephen Watson, Brian Waldrop (Erica), Katie Watson, Kellie Waldrop, Gray Cato, and Cassidy Cato; great-grandchildren, Shelby Taylor, Noah Watson, and Millie Alston; one brother, Robert Merrill Waldrop (Janice); one sister, Betty Waldrop Baker (Don); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by the 1 p.m. Celebration of Buck's Life in Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial, Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL.
