Claiborne was a retired Birmingham, Alabama attorney and a former Homewood City Councilman. Never a person to shy away from challenging endeavors, he attended Cumberland Law School at night while serving with the Homewood Police Department by day. He earned his Juris Doctorate law degree in 1962 as well as an accounting degree in 1963 from the University of Alabama. Following graduation, he became a member of the Alabama Bar Association, and proudly served in the U.S. Army JAG Corps before moving into private law practice where he remained until his retirement.
Claiborne, an Eagle Scout himself, loved to teach and share his love of the outdoors in his leadership roles with Boy Scouts of America for many years. His passion for Scouting was so evident that he was twice awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award by the National Court of Honor, a medal he proudly displayed on a wall at his law practice for all to see.
In his later years, long after he stepped away from Scouting, Claiborne and his wife and best friend, Judy, had more time to relax and enjoy life. They discovered the joys and loves of helping rescue dogs and for years had many of their own canine pets.
It was while he was playing tennis, his favorite sport, that Claiborne first meet Judy. As a child, he developed a love of community involvement, animals, photography, and outdoor sports. Those interests remained with him for the rest of his life.
Claiborne was preceded in death by his father, Alfred W. Seier, Jr.; mother, Martha Frances Porter Seier; and brother, Alfred W. Seier, III.
