Claudia Johnson Gilliland Jayne

Claudia Johnson Gilliland Jayne of Birmingham, Alabama, born June 9, 1932 in Aliceville, Alabama, passed away December 31, 2017 at the age of 85. Claudia was a long-time member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday school class. She was also a youth Sunday School teacher, youth Sunday school director, and office assistant.

Claudia was a graduate of Samson Alabama School Systems (1950), Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn 1954), and the University of Montevallo (Masters 1977).

Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. E.E. Johnson, her husband, Richard Forney Gilliland, and son, David A. Jayne.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. John H. Jayne, children, Dr. Richard Gilliland (Gretchen), Gay Gilliland Skinner (Steve), John Christopher Jayne (Teri), Janice Jayne Battle (Frank), her brother, EE Johnson, Jr., and her sister, Emma Sorrells (Ronnie). Claudia, or Mimi as she was called by her grandchildren, is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 1-2 p.m., immediately followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m.
