With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Martha "Dianne" McGuire Hall, who left this world on February 8, 2026 in Birmingham, AL. Dianne was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on April 19, 1941 in Amory, MS, a young Dianne and family made their way to Birmingham where she graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1959 and attended community college. She went to work at Rust Engineering where she met her husband Emmett Levert Hall. They married and had two daughters, Heather Lei and Samantha Claire.
Dianne had many talents including sewing, ceramics and baking. She was a master at making birthday cakes and loved to treat her family to homemade cakes with beautiful handmade icing roses. Her treats were more than desserts; they were expressions of love that made every celebration extra special.
Her daughters’ early childhood years were spent with their stay-at-home mom. She sewed matching outfits for them and surprised them with handmade Raggedy Ann dolls and bunny rabbit hand puppets.
Dianne found her professional calling as a speed typist and transcriptionist, and honed her skills working with companies such as Cook Transport, Birmingham Radiological Group, and UAB Hospital. With her work being mainly in the medical field, she learned difficult medical terms and could talk to any doctor in their own medical jargon.
Dianne is preceded in death by her former husband and best friend, Emmett L. Hall, and parents Ruth Sparks McGuire Tucker and John B. “Jack” McGuire.
She is survived by daughters Heather Hall DeWitt (Bobby), Samantha Hall Gambrill (Larry), grandchildren Kaylie DeWitt (Correy and his daughter Lily), and Kyra DeWitt Elrod (Jeff). She loved her seven great grandchildren, Emmett, Presley & Maddox Wilkinson, EJ Paliescheskey, Ryals, Ily & Witt Elrod. She also leaves behind her beloved younger sisters, Priscilla McGuire King (John), Amy McGuire Tyree, and Ginger McGuire Hyatt (Bill). She was known as Aunt Dinah to many nieces and nephews.
Dianne valued her wonderful lifelong friendships with Susan Wells and Dave Allen of Birmingham, Mary Wilkerson of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and very special friend Carlos Perkins of Cordova, AL. Her love and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A brief graveside service will be held on Monday February 16, 2026 at 2:00pm. Services are being handled by Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery in Pelham, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Believe Stroke Recovery Foundation (www.believesrf.org) or the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (www.bafound.org).
