

He is survived by his wife, Carla Burns Irwin; children, DB Irwin, China de Marignac (Charles-Henri), and Ian Irwin; step-daughters, Taylor Cargal (Keith), Morgan Simmons (Craig) and Sloane Drumm (Robert); grandchildren, Holland Irwin, Pandora de Marignac, Grayson and Gaines Badyrka, Collins and Lawson Cargal, and Amelia and Redding Drumm; sisters, Priscilla McCain (Jerry) and Lila Talley (William); and a large extended family.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Cora and Bruce Irwin, and sisters, Dee Evans, Linda Murray, and Anita LaGroue (Ed).
Bruce was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College and the UAB School of Medicine. He was the proud Founder and CEO of American Family Care (AFC), the nation’s leading provider of accessible primary care, urgent care, and occupational medicine. He opened the first AFC in Birmingham in 1982 and had seen it grow to over 300 locations across 30 states. AFC was his professional life’s work and he was so proud that it had remained headquartered in Birmingham for the past 40 years with a team of hard working, dedicated executives and employees.
Bruce and Carla loved to travel. He loved his family and was much loved and respected in return. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A celebration of Donald Bruce Irwin's life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, Birmingham on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at the church, and the service will begin at 3 p.m. A private burial service will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.
