

Dr. McInnis was born in Birmingham, Alabama on June 21, 1941 and died on September 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Rush McInnis, Sr. and Mary Gooch McInnis. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Olson McInnis; his daughter, Karen McInnis McPheeters (Steve); his grandson, Coleman Rush McPheeters; his granddaughter, Jacqueline Claire McPheeters; and his sister, Beth McInnis Rogers (Rudy).
He graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1959, attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, and graduated from The UAB School of Medicine. He interned and did a partial surgery residency at Carraway Methodist Hospital. He then spent 2 years in the United States Army, where he served as a Battalion Surgeon in Vietnam.
He practiced medicine as a Family Physician for 40 years and served as Medical Director of nursing homes for over 35 years. He was President of the Jefferson County Family Physicians; a founding member of the Board of Directors for Southeast Health Plan; President of Poinsettia Men's Club; a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians; and a member of the Board of Directors of Brookwood Medical Center. He attended and was an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for over 65 years where he sang in the Sanctuary Choir. He served on numerous short-term mission trips, both medical and non-medical, and supported many local and international charities.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Dr. McInnis on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, 114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL 35209.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be donated to Forgotten Children Ministries (Honduras) (www.fcmhonduras.org), Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood (www.dawsonchurch.org), or your favorite charity.
