Liz Mason of Alabaster, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in Berlin, Germany and came to the United States in 1954 following her marriage to J.J. Mason while he served in the U.S. Air Force.
The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for Liz Mason at 2 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Dr. Charles Carter, retired pastor of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, will officiate.
Liz is survived by her husband, J.J.; sons, Gene (Keri) and Glen (Donna); and grandchildren, Eden, Zoey, Levi, Mason, and Levi. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Lena Seidler; brother, Alfred; sister, Gertrude; and twin sister, Krista.
While J.J. was in college, Liz was happy to work as a bookkeeper so they could bring her mother and older sister to the United States. A few years after college, Liz and J.J. returned to Europe for 11 years in business while living in Libya, Ethiopia, and Germany. After 16 and 18 years of marriage, Liz reached her goal of having two boys. Her most enjoyable years started in 1970 with the adoption of Gene at age six weeks and then Glen in 1972 at the age of three weeks. The boys had different birth parents, all from Yugoslavia. Liz and J.J.'s mothers were invited to Germany to enjoy the new family members.
The next fulfilling period was in 1980 in Birmingham, Alabama when the family joined Shades Mountain Baptist Church. Liz was active in the choir and children's department. Her favorite Bible verse was Matthew 6:33 and her favorite song was "It is Well with My Soul."
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Association to aid others suffering from this disease.
