Ernie Young

Ernie Young, age 96, of Bessemer, Alabama passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019. He was born November 7, 1922 in North Port, Alabama. Ernie was preceded in passing by his wife of 72 years, Bernice Young; his daughter-in-law Lynn Young; and multiple brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sons Phil Young, Jerry Young (Johna), and Richard Patterson (Joy); his brother Boodler Young; his sister Sarah Young Kennedy; his sister-in-law Lois Thrasher; his grandchildren Andy Young (Laura), Aaron Young (Anna), and Jeremy Young (Elise); as well as great-grandchildren Simeon, Sophia, Alexa, Leona, and Grant.

Ernie worked in the automotive industry for 60 years including owning a Chevrolet dealership in Milton, Florida. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. He served his Lord for many years in several churches as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and in many other positions. He was a member of The Baptist Church of McAdory and a Gideon. Ernie was affectionately known as "Granddaddy" by many and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Ernie will be held Monday, April 22, 2019 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama 35124. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Baptist Church of McAdory in memory of Ernie Young.
