

Esther Lynn Hightower, 83, of Birmingham, Alabama, returned to her heavenly home on January 3, 2019. Born in Houston, Texas and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she was raised. She went to college at Louisiana State University. Married to C. S. “Bill” Hightower in 1955 then she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she got her “girls” and had her son prior to moving to Birmingham, Alabama in 1972 where she raised her family.
She had a love for reading, fishing, sports and politics (member of League of Women Voters). She was heavily involved in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster (member of Women's Circle). She was a die hard LSU fan. Esther Hightower’s biggest accomplishment and favorite monikers were Mom and Mamo. Her most loved recipes are her chocolate chip cookies and cornbread dressing. She was a stay at home Mom for her children and so many of their friends as well as a stay at home Mamo for her grandchildren and countless other children.
She is survived by her sister, Claire P. Arnold; her children Lynn Elouise Hightower-Moore (Kevin), Lynda Jane Hightower, and Clay Thomas Hightower. She is also survived by four grandchildren Brandon Thomas Rosso (Lindsey), Amanda J. Rosso, Kaitlin Lynn Moore, and Katherine Anne Moore; great-grandchildren Benjamin-Michael David McDaniel and Meredith-Kate Ruth Rosso and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Ernest Victor Purdy, and her mother, Cora Elouise Purdy; her sister, Nancy P. Durkee; and her ex-husband C. S. Hightower.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Esther's Life at First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster, 8828 Hwy 119, Alabaster, Alabama 35007 on January 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Children’s Hospital of Alabama.
