Evelyn Wade

She was born in Oconee, GA on November 18, 1923. She completed high school then graduated with her Associates of Arts degree from a college in Miami, FL.

She was a legal secretary when she met and married Charles A. Wade, an attorney, in 1948. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and later, a stay-at-home mother. She truly enjoyed being with her children. She was a member of the Daughter of the Nile Organization and several others. In World War II, she was Supervisor for Rosie Riveters and was in charge of making sure the fighter jets were safe for the pilots. Later in life, she was the bookkeeper for the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. When she retired from that position, she moved to Pensacola to be closer to some of her children.

She is preceded in death by two children, Charlene Martin and Glenn Lowe, several grandchildren, LaBo Martin, Danielle Martin, Sarah Jordan, and Ed Lowe, her brothers, Serol Underwood and Ed Underwood, and her parents, Otha Franklin Underwood, Sr. and Nina Lou Slade Underwood.

She is survived by her children, Maria Davis (Jerry L. Davis, Sr.) and Kay Porter, son-in-law, Larry Martin, her grandchildren, Dr. Shellie Marks (Paul Marks), Christy Griffin (Zeb Griffin), Dr. Gina Davis, Lance Davis, Jessica Frisby (Richard), Chris Porter (Mary), Ashley Porter, Charles Martin (Summer), her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Marks, Sophia Marks, Stetson Griffin, Landon Griffin, Allie Griffin, Arianna Zelinsky, David Whaley, Madi Whaley, Leila Frisby, Charleigh Frisby, Jacob Martin, and Gabe Martin, Adonis Porter, and Chris Porter, Jr., her brother, Otha Franklin Underwood, Jr., and her sister, Avis Fisher.

A Visitation will be held in Evelyn’s Honor on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 5:30 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 PM. Evelyn’s final resting place will be at Eastern Gate Memorial Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. There will be an additional graveside service there at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025.
