Faye Stanford May

Faye Stanford May, born November 22, 1923 in Hamilton , AL, went home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2021, at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Doss May; her parents, Ennis and Claborn Stanford; a brother, Guy Stanford, and a great grandchild, Will Zecher. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Church (Larry), and Barbara Capitell (Bruce), and 5 grandchildren; Doss Church, of Asheville, NC; Amy Church Grimes (Russ) of Birmingham and Karen Zecher (David), of Madison AL. Laura Capitell Balzer ( David) of Pensacola, FL, and Anne Capitell Riley (Rob) of Birmingham. She was so proud of her 14 great grandchildren; Simon, Sadie and Josie Church, Lillian and Esther Grimes; Megan, Aaron and Ethan Zecher; Ben, Cate, and Charlotte Balzer; and Maggie, Jenna and Kellan Riley. Faye, known as Mimi to her grandchildren, was a member of Cahaba Heights Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was an accomplished quilter and crocheter and leaves behind many lovely quilts and Afghans, her famous dressing recipe, and so many loving memories. She saved many stray cats, her companions in life who brought her so much joy. She had a life full of cats and family and laughter and leaves a big hole in all of our lives. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the staff of Columbia Cottage, Mt Brook, assisted living and Brookwood hospital palliative care and hospice. And to the amazing and caring staff of Affinity hospice, especially Katie Cochran without whom we would have despaired in these last weeks. And we so appreciate the prayers and words of encouragement from so many friends and neighbors. They kept us going through this last journey with Mom and many earlier travails. A grave side service will be held on Friday, September 10 at 3 PM at Southern Heritage, Reverend David Balzer officiating.
