Russell attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve Parachute Rigger unit.
Russell's professional career spanned 48 years in Data Processing. The last 33 years were with BTC Wholesale Distributors.
He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama and served as head usher for 20 years. In his leisure, he enjoyed Alabama Crimson Tide football, taking fun trips to the beach every summer, and spending time with family and friends. He adored his grandchildren and loved being their “biggest” supporter. He cheered them on whether it was while he watched Callan dance on stage, Colton play baseball, or Berkley play the guitar or sports. He was proud of Zach for serving in the U.S. military. His number one hobby was loving his family.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Brendan Canzoneri Streit, to whom he was married on January 24, 1970; two daughters, Melanie (Josh) Elkins and Alison (Dorman) Sizemore; and four grandchildren, Callan Elkins, Colton Elkins, Berkley Young, and Zach Sizemore.
The family will greet friends Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, AL 35216.
