

George is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wheeler Vedel; brother, Murrey Vedel; daughter, Ginger and husband Michael Macrander; daughter, Becky and husband Don Salls; daughter, Susan and husband Chuck Hays; and daughter, Laurie and husband Osman Tunagur. George is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a lifetime of friends.
George, son of George Clodemir and Lottie Ray Vedel, was born and raised in Birmingham. He met his wife, Carolyn Wheeler Vedel, at Camp Winnataska, in his late teens. The two were wed June 2, 1956 and were married nearly 60 years.
George graduated from Ensley High School in 1953 and has remained an active member of their alumni group. He became an accomplished dental technician through his career as the co-owner and operator of Vedel Dental Technicians with his brother, Murrey. He also served as the president of the Alabama Dental Laboratory Association.
George was a devoted fan of University of Alabama football, and he and his wife held season tickets for years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He kept a family vegetable garden and for years enjoyed spending time at their river property and hunting camp.
George was a proud father of four strong women and loved spending time with his grandchildren and gathering for family celebrations.
The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Immediately following the visitation, the Graveside Service of Remembrance will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
