Gerald "Gerry" Allan George

30 décembre 19562 août 2021

Gerald Allan George, Gerry, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, loved by all who knew him, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 2nd, 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was 64.

Gerry was born on December 30, 1956, the fourth child of five to Andy and Jeannette George in Warren, Pennsylvania.

Gerry received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. With a career that spanned forty plus years as a dental lab professional, Gerry was one of the most respected and sought-after dental implant and reconstruction specialists in the country. He co-owned Latos Dental Lab in Olney, Maryland for 30 years, lectured at universities and dental conferences across the country, and assisted in thousands of dental implant surgeries through prosthesis design, production and delivery. Gerry’s talents far exceeded technical elements; he was in a single word, an artist. His work changed the lives of thousands of people through the design and delivery of cosmetic dentistry. Later in his career he joined Burdette Dental Laboratory in Birmingham, Alabama where he continued to practice his art and talents.

Although Gerry’s professional passion was in the dental field, his heart always belonged to the ball field. Gerry spent years playing softball for various school and community teams. He also spent untold hours coaching the little league teams of his children and others in the local community. His enthusiasm for the game, his huge heart, and infectious personality inspired and enriched the lives of children and adults alike. Gerry even played Major Plus softball for over 10 years, and in 2002 he and his team won the National Softball Championship. One of Gerry’s proudest moments came when he was inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Softball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Gerry was the kind of ball player who would break through a wall, dislocate a shoulder and make the play! This was his general attitude toward life, his marriage to Monica, his job and his family. He gave it his all and then would give some more! This was also the way in which he fought his heroic battle with the rare autoimmune disease, Wegener’ granulomatosis. Of course, he was one of the first survivors after years of study and testing at the NIH.

Gerry’s interests and passions spanned well beyond ball fields and dentistry. Gerry was a loving family man known for regularly texting silly dad jokes, bible verses and daily devotionals to his children and loved ones. His love and adoration of family was only rivaled by his love for scripture and his savior, Jesus Christ. His magnetic personality not only attracted other people, but was inclusive of birds, dogs, cats, and other random wildlife as well. His big heart, sense of humor and joy for life touched every person that encountered him.

The last ten years were the best years of Gerry’s life. His love for his wife, Monica, and centered in his relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ, was a force to be reckoned with. It’s not often that you find your soul mate, but for Gerry and Monica, it seemed effortless. As they took their late night walks or entered a room, people were always in awe of their obvious love for one another. Although their season together has ended for now, their love has created a beautiful unit of extended family and friends that will carry his memory on.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Monica Parham, his six children, Michael George, Jackie Johnson, Jordan Li, Ryan George, Jacob Li and Hayley George and his three grandchildren: Madison, Emily, and Matthew Johnson. Gerry is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Cyndy Pyle, Linda Davis, David George and Steven George and many nieces and nephews.

“Use me in any way that You see fit for Your divine plan, O Lord. Carry me on any path and I shall trust the way, for I know You love me and Your intentions are always the best for me. I shall not fear when the terrain is rough, my faith will not quake based on any conditions. For You are the one true God, and the love of my life. Amen.”

I was heartsick to hear this news about Gerry, I am a dental office manager in Washington, DC~ We probably spoke to each other almost every day for 25 years. Such a great loss, please accept my heartfelt sympathy.
Life is so precious, we must live everyday remembering this.
