

Arthur's family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where he graduated from Woodlawn High School. In 1959, he received his B.S. Degree in mechanical engineering from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University), where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Arthur proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army following college graduation, and he served for more than 10 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. After his military service, he was employed by U.S. Steel in Birmingham. He then worked for American Cast Iron Pipe Company for the next 39 years in various capacities, retiring as Vice-President and Works Manager.
Arthur was a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama and had a lifelong interest in and was very active in the metal casting industry. He served as National President of the American Foundry Society and was the author and presenter of various technical papers in the United States and abroad. He received the NMA’s Gold Knight of Management Award in 2001.
Arthur was very active in the College of Engineering at Auburn University, where he served as Chairman of the Alumni Council. He received the Auburn Engineering Superior Service Award. He also served on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement.
Arthur was an active member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Birmingham for 54 years. He was an ordained deacon, Sunday School teacher, and department director. Most recently, he was an active member of the Businessmen’s Bible Class. He also served as chairman of the Building Committee in 1988-89.
Arthur enjoyed golf and exercising at Vestavia Country Club, where he served as president in 2006. He loved traveling and playing at golf courses including St. Andrews and Pebble Beach. He loved spending time at Lake Martin with his family and attending the activities of his children and grandchildren over the years. He also enjoyed woodworking and was an avid history buff.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Harry Arthur Edge Sr. and Lillian Rainey Edge of Birmingham; grandparents, Judge John Clifford Rainey, Ida Lillian Peacock Rainey of Schley County, Georgia, and Clabourne Martin Edge and Aurora Upchurch Edge of Fairburn, Georgia. Survivors include Arthur's loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Suttle Edge; his children, Harry Arthur Edge III, Jennifer Edge McMahon (Bill), and Laura Edge Morrison (Gregg); sister, Dianne Edge Baughan (Maxie) of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren, Lindsey Caroline McMahon, William Reed McMahon III, Gregg Scott Morrison Jr., and Katherine Grace Morrison; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Arthur will be lovingly remembered for his Christian faith, integrity, and commitment to his family.
Services will be Friday April 7, 2017. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Shades Mountain Baptist Church Birmingham, followed by the memorial service at 12 noon in the church's Worship Center, 2017 Columbiana Road, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216. Dr. Danny Wood, Dr. Gregg S. Morrison, and Dr. Charles T. Carter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Arthur's grandsons, Reed McMahon and Scott Morrison; nephews, Eric Thompson and Daniel Thompson; and brothers-in-law, Collin Galletly and Lt. Col. (Ret.) David Piet.
