Hazel Nell Tomeny Hymel, age 78, entered into Eternal Life on Tuesday evening, December 6, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones. After suffering a stroke, she was unresponsive, but seconds before her passing, she cried to let us know she was in Heaven with her Savior, her loved ones, and her dog Jolie. This gives us comfort in time of sorrow. We are joyful for her new, eternal home and celebrate her life!
Nell was born in New Orleans, LA, was a native of White Castle, LA, and resided in Baton Rouge, LA. She recently moved to Birmingham, AL to live with her daughter.
In her early 20's, Nell was employed as a stewardess for National Airlines. Later, she worked as a florist and was secretary for the Hymel family business.
Nell made sure her kids traveled and saw important landmarks. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, growing tomatoes, visiting Walt Disney World, deer hunting, eating crabs and crawfish, playing the piano, visiting the Opryland Hotel, drinking coffee and reading her newspaper, and cheering for the LSU Tigers! The light of her life were her kids and grandkids.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Frank O. Tomeny Sr. and Hazel Normand Tomeny; her former husband, Landry J. Hymel; one son, Landry J. Hymel Jr.; and three brothers, Frank O. Tomeny Jr., Michael J. Tomeny, and Patrick E. Tomeny.
She is survived by her son, Danny J. Hymel (daughter-in-law Rhonda); her daughter, Lesa Hymel Rease (son-in-law Jeff); two grandchildren, Cory J. Hymel and Caroline N. Hymel; one brother, Timothy N. Tomeny; and 15 nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Nell Hymel's Life and Legacy was on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in White Castle, LA. Entombment followed at Greenwood Cemetery and Mausoleum in New Orleans.
