

Helen Ann Andrews Gilliland, born June 15, 1979, in Birmingham, passed away August 7, 2013, after a brave persistent battle with the ravages of cancer. She was the daughter of Richard Clark Andrews and Kathleen Brislin Andrews. Helen graduated from Hoover High School May 29, 1997, and Auburn University May 11, 2002, and, until her illness, was employed by Robins & Morton as a Graphic Arts Designer. Helen was an out-going, dedicated, accomplished, talented, happy person who would light up a room when she entered. She had a number of loyal friends, particularly Aimee Comer and co-workers at Robins & Morton, her loss is being deeply felt by those who dearly loved and cherished her. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Patrick B. Gilliland, her parents, her sister Katherine Ann Andrews Higgins (Andrew), brother, R. Clark Andrews Jr., paternal grandparents (Ann & Joe W. Andrews Jr.) uncles, Harry Brislin Jr. (Lily), Mark Brislin (Tess), aunts, Helen Johnson (Jeff), and Dr. Sharon A. Sharp (Bobby), uncle, D. Bruce Andrews and great uncle, Dr. J. Richard Andrews. Helen’s maternal grandparents (Harry and Helen Brislin) are deceased. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Charles Landen and the U.A.B. Nursing Personnel for their care and professional services, also the services of Comfort Care Hospice. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from the hours of 12:00 until 2:00pm at Mountain Top Community Church. Helen’s Celebration of Life service will start at 2:00pm at Mountain Top Community Church. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The American Cancer Society or The Exceptional Foundation, in Helen’s Memory.
