

Helen graduated from Altoona High School. She then graduated from Jacksonville State University, where she was a cheerleader. She lived most of her life in Gadsden, where she was a high school teacher for many years. She taught at Emma Sansom, Litchfield, and later at Westminster Christian School. She loved teaching and particularly loved her students.
Helen was an avid golfer for most of her life and was the Ladies Club Champion at the Gadsden Country Club. She was always an active member of her church family, often serving as a Sunday School teacher. Most recently she was a member in Birmingham at Asbury United Methodist Church, where she served on the Altar Guild.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Niles Nichols; son, Jay and daughter-in-law Melanie; daughter, Jill; granddaughter, Dailey Nichols; and grandson, Colin Lambert. She is also survived by her sister, Susan (Ray) Rowan; brother, Mack (Ann) Thompson; brother- and sister-in-law, John and Beth Nichols; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was much loved by many chosen family members, including Connie, Greg and Chad Hartley and Sheri and Parker Cain.
A memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Big Oak Boys and Girls Ranch or Asbury United Methodist Church REACH program.
