

He grew up in Cahaba Heights, Alabama where he loved playing baseball. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1985.
Jim joined the family flooring business at the age of nineteen. He began as an apprentice and worked his way to Director of Commercial Sales. He recently oversaw the renovations of a building to create a larger warehouse and corporate offices, proudly moving the Commercial Division to its new location in Leeds, Alabama. Jim was a member of the Floor Covering Installation Contractors Association (FCICA). Jim worked alongside his family for thirty-nine years.
Jim had a deep love for nature. Whether it was saltwater fishing in Orange Beach, Alabama or hunting deer at his hunting club in Carrollton, Alabama. Jim introduced all his boys to his love of the outdoors.
One of Jim’s biggest pleasures was cooking. He loved to cook meals for his family. Jim’s love for cooking developed early in his life watching his mother cook.
Jim was an avid NASCAR fan following in the footsteps of his father who loved racing. Sunday afternoons he was cheering on his favorite drivers.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, James A. Acton, Grace B Acton, Robert and Marjorie Farrell.
He is survived by his parents, G. Fred and Marsha F. Acton, his loving and faithful wife of 28 years, Dawn Barnett Acton and his three sons Evan Acton (Hala), Jacob Acton (Lauren), and Riley Acton; his sisters, Cathy Farren (Chris) and Amy Brown (Rodney); nieces Ashleigh Jones (Stephen), Courtney Crowder (Landon), Mackenzie Burchett (Cody) and Lindsey Brown; and many other family and friends.
After raising all boys, Jim was thrilled to have granddaughters, Adeline Rae Acton and Lyla Joy Acton. “Pop Pop” took great pride in preparing big breakfasts for Addie.
Jim’s presence was as large as his heart and he stood as a protector for all he held dear.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 pm Saturday August 9 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Service will begin at 2:00 pm with burial to conclude at Acton Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Seale Harris, a camp for children with Type I diabetes; 500 Chase Park South Ste. 104 Hoover, Alabama 35244.
