James Thomas Cutcliff

September 27, 1937 - May 2, 2018

Jim “Mr. Cut” Cutcliff, 80, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham, Alabama. A celebration of life and a graveside burial service will follow at 11:30. Reverend Jeff Allison will be officiating.

James was born September 27, 1937 in Oklahoma City, OK to Joseph and Ida (Croft) Cutcliff. He graduated high school from Marist College in Atlanta, GA in 1955 and then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Georgia State University in 1962. He met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Ann Barfield from Reynolds, GA and had four children. James was self-employed and considered to be a jack of all trades. He started his career in the insurance industry and then later owned and operated several businesses for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter and loved sitting on his porch swing enjoying the sunshine, gentle breeze and the chirping of the birds. He spent his mornings talking to the Lord and thanking him for the many blessings that were bestowed upon him throughout his life. He had a strong love for family and friends.

James is survived by his daughter Cathleen C. (David) Pettepher (Nashville, TN), and sons Christopher A. Cutcliff (Atlanta, GA), James C. Cutcliff (Atlanta, GA) and A. Cyle (Kim) Cutcliff (Birmingham, AL); six loving grandchildren, Erin and Matthew Pettepher, Lauren, Christian, Emma and Colin Cutcliff; his brother Joseph (Marilyn) Cutcliff Jr. (Atlanta, GA); his sister Carolyn (Mike) Nicholl (Nashville, TN); his mother-in-law Olga Barfield (Isle of Palms, SC) and several nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Ann, his parents, Joe and Ida, and his older sibling, Sister Marie Carolyn Cutcliff and his father-in-law, Clarence F. Barfield. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend and will be missed by all.
