Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anastasia Kovakas; brother George; and sisters, Katherine Hadzigeorge and Frances Karagas.
Born August 23, 1936, in Gary, Indiana, Jim grew up rooted in faith, hard work, and the warm embrace of Greek heritage.
On his 21st birthday, he married the love of his life, Penny Odishoo, and together they built a beautiful family and a legacy of devotion that touched everyone around them.

A lifelong outdoorsman and avid trap shooter, Jim approached every hobby with contagious enthusiasm. Whether he was behind a shotgun, tending his land in Shelby County, or sharing stories with friends, he did everything with passion and a smile. He made everyone feel at home.
Jim is survived by his adored wife, Penny, and their three sons; George (Melodie), James, and David (Dorothea), along with four grandchildren; David, Zachary, Penelope Grace, and James, Jr., one great-granddaughter; Eleni. He is also survived by his beloved sister; Irene Chiotakis, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family.
