"Jim," a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, graduated from Georgia State College, had a long career in sales with Union Carbide Corporation, and earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from Birmingham School of Law. He was a 33 Degree Scottish Rite and a member of the Marine Corps League. His favorite pastimes included sailing and traveling. He was a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol and a Ham Radio operator.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William Valentine Murphy and Mamie Irene Henderson Murphy. Survivors include his wife Betty Ginn Murphy, to whom he was married on June 6, 1952; two daughters, Karen Murphy Jowers and Julie Elizabeth Murphy; son-in-law, James Kenneth Jowers; and one grandchild, Kasey Elizabeth Jowers.
A gravesite committal service for Jim Murphy will be Monday, January 30, 2023 at 10:15 a.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
