James Carver Sullivan

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Celebration of Jim's Life at 2 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel. Following the gravesite committal service at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, the family will host a reception at the funeral home.

In his childhood, Jim traveled with his father, an Army officer, to many Army posts throughout the country including Fort Benning, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Bragg, Fort Buchanan, and Fort Hamilton. Jim learned to play golf at Fort Buchanan in Puerto Rico and golf became his lifetime avocation.

After he graduated from the University of Hartford, CT, Jim joined Combusion Engineering (acquired by ABB and Alstom Power) and worked for them for 43 years. He and his wife of 40 years, Vickie, moved around the country with his job living in Chattanooga, TN, St. Petersburg, FL, Charlotte, NC, and San Francisco, CA. They finally settled in the Riverchase community in Hoover, AL.

Jim retired from Alstom as an Account Executive. He loved the Riverchase community, developed many lifelong friends, and loved his weekends on the golf course. After retirement, he and Vickie traveled to Virginia and Massachusetts for weddings and holidays, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Jim was a member of the Riverchase United Methodist Church and was an avid participant in many spiritual programs there.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Vickie Leebrick Sullivan, and his parents, Edmund Carver Sullivan and Mary Gertrude Sullivan.

Survivors include Jim's sister, Ann Sullivan Anderson and her husband Richard Anderson of Andover, MA; nephew and godson, James Broyer of New Canaan, CT and James' wife Katie Broyer; niece, Katherine Buehner of Goleta, CA and Katherine's husband, Travis Buehner; niece, Julia Anzaldi of Dedham, MA and Julia's husband, Gregory Anzaldi; four great-nephews, Bejamin Broyer, Nolan Buehner, William Anzaldi and Vincent Anzaldi; and two great-nieces, Alice Buehner and Claire Buehner.
