James "Jim" Alva Thompson, 92, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away June 11, 2025. He was born April 7, 1933 to George and Catherine Thompson in Chicago, Illinois. He was a devoted husband to his first wife, Jean Teague Thompson, and his second wife, Betty Schoppe Thompson.
Jim was a graduate of Ensley High School and The University of Alabama. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity Beta Chapter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1954-1956. He served one tour stationed in Germany, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Jim was founder and president of Air Tech Incorporated established in 1973. He remained president until his retirement at 84 years old.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Teague Thompson; his second wife, Betty Schoppe Thompson; and sister, Dorothy Chambers. He is survived by his two sons, Scott (Sistina) Thompson and Mark (Alexis) Thompson; grandchildren, Ragan, Payne, Jack, Nick, and Arrington Thompson; and extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 2-3 p.m., followed by the graveside service at 3 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
