

In 1964, she began a lifelong career in office management of Medical Family practice, where she extended her family to include her employers and co-workers. She was a member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church in Montgomery. Since moving to Birmingham, she became a member of North Shelby Baptist Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Irene Lancaster; her husband of 49 years, Charles David Hopper; sisters, Beryl McCullum, Hazel Sutton, and Eloyce McCracken; and brother, Adrian Lancaster.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Kent Hinkle (Hunter); son, Charley Hopper (Lisa); grandchildren, James Mailon Kent III, Charles David Hopper III (Sara), and Jenna Marie Hopper; great-grandchild, Mailon Thomas Kent; brothers, Ralph Lancaster, Ronnie Lancaster, and Clark Lancaster (Lib); sister, Doris McCullum; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers for Jean's services will be nephews, Terry Lancaster, Reggie Lancaster, Phil Lancaster, Al Lancaster, Kirk Lancaster, Dane Lancaster, Jeff McCullum, and Kenneth McCullum.
The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, October 11, 2013 at North Shelby Baptist Church, 4100 Belcher Drive, Birmingham, AL 35242. The graveside service will be the same day at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Ralph, AL, with Pastor Allan Murphy officiating.

Also, a special thanks goes to Jackie Byers, Doris Hall, and Beatrice Smith for their love, care, and friendship during these past months. We will be eternally grateful for your loving care of our Mimi.
