

Jeffrey Neil Bloomer, born 12/16/1970 in the U.S. Naval Hospital at Bethesda, MD, died unexpectedly on 10/19/2011. He is survived by his mother Anne Bloomer; father Joseph Bloomer, M.D.; sister Jennifer Bloomer Jeans, M.D. (Peter); daughter Maya Bloomer; nieces Kendra, Lauryn and Lindsay Jeans; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; film partner and friend Dana Abercrombie; special friend Christine Bordenca.
Neil, as he was called by his many acquaintances, Jeff by his family, attended Cabrillo College and the University of California in Santa Cruz, and graduated in 2008 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a B.S. degree, Cum Laude, in Radiologic Sciences. In recognition of his scholarly achievement at UAB, Neil was elected into Golden Key International Honor Society and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He was a member of the American Society of Radiation Therapy and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Neil had a passionate interest in making independent films, in which he had many roles – actor (11 films), producer (9 films), director (3 documentaries), editor (3 films), and cinematographer (9 films). He was also Director/Producer at St. Michael’s Sword, L.L.C. He received the Mississippi Film Festival top award, the Coup De Gras Award, in October 2011.
A memorial service will be held for him on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham, officiated by Reverend Lone Jensen-Broussard.
In lieu of flowers the Jeffrey Neil Bloomer Memorial Fund has been established at the Wells Fargo Bank, 4651 Highway 280, Birmingham, AL 35242, which will be used for an annual award to be given to a rising star in the field of independent films.
