

Jerry Mac Thompson, loving husband, beloved father, devoted grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was a truck driver for over 40 years before retiring. Simply known as Poppy to many, he was loved dearly by all who knew him.
He was born on April 21, 1938, to the late Ollie and Addie Bell Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Julia B Thompson, his son, George Whaley, and his brother, Curtis (Pete) Thompson.
He is survived by his daughter, Jesslyn L Dyson; his five grandchildren, Lauren Sands (Jonathan), Alex Whaley (Jordan), David Dyson (Laura), Josh Whaley (Shelby), and Daniel Dyson (Melinda). His pride and joy were his ten great grandchildren, Lynleigh and Maddox Dyson, Layla and Cayden Dyson, Ezra, Malachi, and Isaiah Sands, Jay, Coleson, and Brooks Whaley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Robin Barker-Chambers (Tim), and two nephews, Blake Chambers (Elise) and Parker Chambers (Jessie). In addition, he leaves behind many beloved family and friends.
The family will host friends at a visitation from 11 am until 1 pm on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL.
The celebration of Poppy's life will be at a graveside service at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Snead, AL.
Due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic the family asks that all who attend wear masks and socially distance.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to UAB Cancer Research .
