Jessie Bailey Smith, 94 of Birmingham, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. During WWII, she was assistant manager of a dress shop in downtown Birmingham, The Fan-Tan shop. She was a devoted homemaker and provided everything her family needed, especially gentleness and love. Jessie also loved gardening and arranging flowers. She loved the Lord and her church, Indian Springs Baptist.
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, James O. Smith; son, Terry Smith; and parents, Gus Edward and Mima Bailey. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ross (Jim); son, Stewart Smith (Rita); daughter-in-law, Georgia Smith; sister, Margaret Swann; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The celebration of Jessie’s life will be at 1pm on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Indian Springs Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Indian Springs Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3375 Cahaba Valley Road, Indian Springs, AL 35124.
