Jewell Dean Henson

Jewell Dean Smith Henson, age 85, was born in Mt. Hope, Al to the late Floyd and Jessie (Mitchell) Smith. She died peacefully at home after a long illness. Jewell will be remembered for her great strength of character, sharp mind and wit, beautiful smile, knowledge of the Bible, and the fierceness with which she loved her Lord, family, and friends. On February 14, 1948, she married AJ Henson, Sr.- her one true love. They were married for 46 years which were filled with laughter, love, and service to the Lord. They welcomed five children into their family. After AJ's passing, she continued the legacy they started together. She leaves a great legacy of love and faith. She is survived by her five children; Jay (Kay) Henson of Florence, AL; Pat (Rick) Mays of Calera, AL; Hal (India) Henson of McCalla, AL; Deana (Kyle) Boyett of Hoover AL; Jan (Kerry) Belcher of Trussville, AL; her 11 grandchildren, Alan Huffman, Derek Henson, Krista Hannon, Brian Mays, Zac Henson, David R. Henson, H. David Bradford, Jackson Boyett, Luke Boyett, Katie Boswell, and John Michael Boswell.; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who all adored her. A special thanks goes to Vitas Hospice, who took loving care of Jewell. Everyone went "above and beyond" especially Dorothea and Tori. A memorial service will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Cahaba Valley Road, Tuesday, July 5th from 10 am to 11 am with the funeral service to follow. Graveside services will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Vitas Hospice Care.
