

Jack Evans of Chelsea, AL, entered into eternal life on October 20, 2019, just two days before his 88th birthday at University Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Born October 22, 1931, in Morrisville, Vt. Jack graduated from West Orange High School and Fairleigh Dickenson University. Mr. Evans served his country in the U.S. Navy received an honorable discharge on May 14, 1958. He was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher in Townley Presbyterian Church, Union, NJ, and Delmar Presbyterian Church, Delmar NY before moving to Vestavia Hills and Southminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Evans was initiated in Wesobulga Lodge No. 289 and raised to Master Mason on January 16, 1957. Mr. Evans moved his family to Glenmont, NY, and affiliated with Bethlehem Lodge No. 85 in Delmar, NY. While in Glenmont, Mr. Evans was President of Selkirk Vol. Fire Department. Relocated to Birmingham, AL, in and affiliated with Bluff Park Lodge No. 856 in Bluff Park. Mr. Evans was a square dance and round dance caller and founded the Yellow Rockers and Shelby Shufflers. Mr. Evans, KC4PZA, was active in the WCUE Birmingham Amateur Radio Club and the Shelby County Amateur Radio Club. He was very active in emergency communications throughout Alabama.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Evans Sr. and L. Irene B. Evans; mother of his children Marilynn, second wife Evelyn, a stepson Rick Byrd and his granddaughter, Emily Lois Dorough.
He leaves behind his loving family, wife of 17 years, Nadine Horne Evans; daughters Lois (Joe) Dorough of Tuscaloosa; Nancy Hendrix of Chelsea; son, Dwight (Ann) Evans Sr. of Buford, GA, daughter Sharon (Jeff) Ammons of Cypress, TX and Christine (Jack) Schloz of Cypress, TX; and niece, Roberta Ann Frazier of Cypress, TX. Mr. Evans also leaves his caregiver and stepdaughter, Kathy (Glynn) Hutchens of Chelsea and stepson Tracy (Lora) Horne of Hoover, AL.
He had grandchildren: Craig (Shanette), Brad (Samantha), Hunter (Kiesha) Dorough and Heather D. (David) Windham; Daniel (Amanda) Hendrix; Kristin (Lavangel) Echols, Dwight Jr., and Marissa Evans; Rebecca (Micah) Blankenship and Rachel Ammons; Otto and Matthew Schloz. He leaves great-grandchildren Alex Dorough and Virgil Blankenship.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2019, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church, 11050 Chelsea Rd., Chelsea, AL. Mr. Alan Kuykendall will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
