John L. Hedlund

John Leonard Hedlund, age 76, was welcomed home by his Savior, on June 5, 2023. John was born on February 8, 1947 to Leonard and Lucille Hedlund. He grew up in Kansas City Missouri and graduated from St. Pious High School in 1966. John enjoyed working as a computer technician throughout his career.

John moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1987 and joined Briarwood Presbyterian Church where he was a faithful member for over 35 years. John sang in the choir, served as an Elder, and as a Lay Pastor. After retiring he found great joy in serving children through volunteering at Vacation Bible School and working weekly at an after school Bible Club. John loved spending time with Judy and his grandchildren at the beach, traveling and attending their sporting events.

John is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughters Nicole Bellanger (Cody), Amy Whitson (Tyler) and Betsy Lindley. Grandchildren, Ford, Lainey, and Betsy Whitson, Barklay Emmons and Anderson Bellanger. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Pickett (Gary) and his three nephews, Adam (Katie), Michael (Lindsey), and Joel (Cherrie).

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Monday, June 12 at 2:00 pm. The family will visit with friends before the service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s honor can be made to Discovery Clubs of Birmingham, either online or by check, at www.discoveryclubs.org.
