

After his graduation from Holston High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the famed Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron for four years.
After his distinguished military service, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. His professional career spanned several years in Logistics and Transportation with Avon, Southeastern Freight Lines, Averitt Express, and later SMC3.
In his leisure, John enjoyed photography, and watching and trading with the Stock Market. For many years, he volunteered with the United Way of Atlanta in Peachtree City with the job assistance program helping people to build their resumes. His other pastimes included being on the computer and collecting any new computer type gadgets, gardening, and exercising, and spending time with his granddaughters.
John is survived by his wife, the former Margery Louise McHan, to whom he was married on March 22, 1969; one daughter, Melissa Rader McCoy and her husband Neil Andrew McCoy; and three granddaughters, Logan McCoy, Margaret McCoy, and Claire McCoy.
The graveside service will be at 12 noon EST on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
