Born on January 18, 1942 in Minden, Louisiana, to Wade and Hazel (Muckelrath) Sisk, Johnny spent his formative years in Winnsboro, Louisiana.
Johnny was a star in the classroom, on the gridiron, and on the basketball court at Winnsboro High School, where he met Joyce Brent — his future wife of 62 years. Following high school, Johnny enrolled at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he would graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
Johnny and Joyce wed on August 26, 1962 — her birthday — and had three sons: Michael, Randall (Shawne), and Stephen.
Throughout his career, Johnny served first as an engineer in the utilities industries before rising through the ranks to become an executive level manager with BellSouth. After more than two decades at BellSouth, Johnny retired to explore his passion for personal finance — serving the wealth management and estate planning needs of his clients.
Johnny had a love for music, evidenced by his participation in the senior choir. He enjoyed playing golf, and loved spending time with his four grandchildren — John Michael, Hayden Elizabeth, Kathryn Taylor, and Thomas Chandler.
One of his most notable passions was planning and coordinating excursions to Southern Gospel ministry events with his friends from Shades Mountain Baptist Church, where he and Joyce were members for more than 40 years.
An ordained deacon, Johnny served in leadership positions both in and out of Shades Mountain, including President of the Senior Council. He was actively involved in ministry with Community Bible Study, The Foundry Ministries, and the Jimmie Hale Mission, among others.
Johnny is survived by his wife and sons; his four grandchildren; his youngest brother Mark Daniel Sisk (Gwendy); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother Wade Gayle Sisk (Vickey).
A private family burial was held Thursday, January 16. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 23 at Shades Mountain Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with a celebration service to follow at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org), or The Foundry Ministries (foundryministries.com).
