

Judge Gordon Thompson, a man of God, devoted husband, father, and Paw Paw entered into his eternal rest and heavenly home on September 27, 2025, at the age of 99. He is joyfully reunited with the love of his life and wife of nearly 70 years, Jackie Sue.
Born on June 5, 1926, Gordon lived a life defined by faith, service, and love. A proud Navy veteran, he honorably served his country during World War Il in the Pacific Fleet on the Bon Homme Richard. Following his service, he dedicated his life to his church, his family, and his community. Gordon retired from the Birmingham Southern Railroad after 30 years of dedicated service. His deep commitment to his church was highlighted by his faithful service as a deacon for several decades and completion of various mission trips, traveling to Wyoming, Montana, and Louisiana to share the love of Christ.
Gordon's passions were many - cheering on Alabama sports, tending to his garden, various family beach trips, and cruising around the world with his beloved wife. He was a gifted storyteller, known for his wit, humor, and the sparkle in his eyes when sharing memories. Those who knew him fondly recall not only his wisdom, but also his attention to detail - from the sharp creases in his pants to the sharpness of his mind.
Above all, Gordon was a man of unwavering faith. He loved his Lord deeply and lived out his beliefs in the way he cared for others, leaving a legacy of kindness, integrity, and devotion that will carry on for generations.
Gordon is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; his parents: Judge Murphy and Mattie Mae Thompson, his siblings, Loumania Ferguson and Florine Robertson(Frank); son-in-law, Rick Patterson. He is survived by his daughter, Debra Patterson, and his son, Jerry Thompson (Sherry), sister Mary Terry (Doanld) He was a proud grandfather to Jason Cargile, Kristy Kelley (Chris), Stacy Shelton (Chris), Jamie Jones (Jim), and Ryan Thompson. His joy only grew with his great-grandchildren: Logan Kelley, Colton Kelley, Miles Kelley, Scottie James Shelton, Tate Shelton, and Colbie Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Pelham Church designated to Future Chapters.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 9:15 am to 10:00 am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, a service in his honor will follow at 10:00 am in the chapel. The committal will conclude at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 12:30 pm
