Larry Glen Sweeney

Larry graduated from Calhoun County High School. He received his degree in industrial technology from Mississippi State University, where he also began his military career in the Army ROTC. He retired from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he worked as an IT engineer. He also worked for Southern Company Services and Sonat during his working career and was the owner of Data Projects, a computer services company.

Larry was a dreamer and an intellectual at heart. He had passions for music, reading, philosophical conversation, his Irish heritage, and all things Lord of The Rings. He loved nothing more than a good meal, good conversation, and good company. He was also a man of faith who had certainty in his mind and peace in soul about being called a child of God.

He is survived by his children, Nathan (Jaime) Sweeney, Kristin (Wolf) Gholson, Erica Sweeney, and Brian (Teyana) Sweeney; his six grandchildren, Killian, Asher and Teagan Gholson, Elliott Sweeney, and Caleb and Liam Sweeney; his brother, Gary Lynn Sweeney; his sister, Karen Sue Johnson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Anderson Sweeney and Hilda Maxine Applewhite Sweeney; his sister, Freda Sweeney Freeman; his son, Andrew Elliott Sweeney; and his granddaughter, Roisin Louise Gholson.

Larry will be laid to rest at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
