Linda Marie Hand

Linda Hand, age 64, a resident of Hoover, AL, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Linda was born and raised in Montgomery, AL, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, class of 1968. She attended the University of Alabama where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Library Science. She later obtained her Juris Doctorate degree at the Birmingham School of Law and was a long time member of the Alabama Bar Association. Linda loved her work at the Jefferson County Law Library where she was director for over 36 years until her retirement in 2010. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, and was an avid reader. Summer times were spent relaxing with family at Lake Martin, and her love of flowers could be seen in her beautifully landscaped yard. Linda was also a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Linda is preceded in death by her father, Robert B. Hand, Jr. She is survived by her mother, Kathryn C. Hand; sisters, Janie Hand, Kathy Blackston, and Debra Rice. Though she had no children of her own, she was a loving aunt to her nephew, Robert Blackston and to her niece, Kathryn Rice. She and her family would like to thank all of their extended family members and friends for their love and support, as well as the physicians and staff of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Birmingham, for their compassionate care during this very difficult time. Linda will be remembered for her nurturing spirit towards others, her warm smile, and her love of life. She will be in our hearts forever.

The funeral mass will be at 11am on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, AL. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the funeral mass. Burial and a reception will follow at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. Linda requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of your choice.
