Lois Eunice Blevins was born in Trenton, FL on October 31, 1943. She was the youngest of the four children of Dewey J. and Clara Mae Stalvey. Eunice obeyed the gospel of Christ while in Junior High School. In high school she played basketball and served as watermelon queen. After high school, she studied business and was working as office manager of a construction firm in Gainesville, FL. Her nephew, Tom Jones, son of her sister Willie Mae Jones, was worshipping in Trenton where Colly Caldwell was preaching. Colly notified them that he was moving to earn an additional educational degree and recommended Dallas R. Blevins to be an interim speaker. Dallas was an Air Force pilot stationed at MacDill AFB, FL. He had obeyed the gospel three years earlier while stationed at Keesler AFB, MS. After a few weeks, Tom invited Dallas to come on Saturday to see the “farm animals” and stay for dinner. Eunice was invited for dinner, not knowing there would be another guest. She was the “farm animal” Tom, with his mother’s full knowledge, had in mind. It was love at first sight. Dallas could not eat for a week, wondering if she had the same warm-fuzzy feeling as did he. She did. On August 22, 1964, they were married. He was disabled two years later. He nearly died twice during the next 10 years. During that time, she patiently provided continuous mental and moral support. Even during his physical recovery and professional retraining, she was a constant blessing.
She was a special part of two wonderful families, one physical and one spiritual. Her physical family is comprised of three children, Deborah Lynn Haynes (Sam), Teresa Lee Lawrence (Jerry) and Jennifer Kay Hilley (Jason), seven grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Gibson (Kyle), Toni Nicole Barnes, Taylor Ann Smith (Jacob), Wilson Ray Lawrence (Savannah) and Maria Grace Lawrence, Anna Leigh Kelley (Sam), Abby Meleah Poumian (Gustavo) and one great-grandchild, Jett Walker Gibson. Her emphasis with the children and grandchildren was always on teaching them to honor God and follow His Son. Had she lived on this earth longer, she would have continued that coaching with her great grandson. Her October 31 birthday was a source of annual amusement as Halloween approached each year. She would jokingly be the “witch” born on that day. Her second family is spiritual. That family is comprised of all the members of the church of Christ, world-wide.
Following her mother’s example, she was a marvelous homemaker making her house a haven for those seeking the truth. Her decisions were designed to facilitate the preaching of the gospel. In 1983, Eunice and her family were worshipping with the church of Christ meeting on Oak Mountain, Pelham, AL. That year they contracted to have a house built. She had the great room of that house made large enough to accommodate all the members. Early in the week, she would invite one or two families to dine with her after worship the next Lord’s Day. When visitors were present, she would invite them. She would begin her extensive preparations on Saturday. There was always more than enough. She would always have snacks after Bible classes in her spotless house. She would accompany Dallas to Bible classes in the homes of others and to speaking engagements. She would co-teach with him in very-young people’s classes. She would often give money to persons in need. She was Dallas’ best friend. She remained faithful to God until her decease on Feb 5, 2021. She had been bed ridden and in great pain for the previous four years. She provided support and comfort to her husband, three daughters and many, many others. The Holy Spirit wrote about people like her in the Old Testament (Prov 31:10-31) and in the New (Act 9:37-40).
