Lynda Sue Baker Blackwell, 81, of Helena, Alabama, went home to be with her precious Savior on Sunday morning, July 18, 2021. She was born on July 10, 1940, in Birmingham, to Howard and Sylvia Baker. She attended Edgewood School, graduated from Vestavia Hills High School and attended the University of Alabama. Lynda was a member of Evangel Church PCA in Alabaster, AL, where she loved singing in the choir. She was in the real estate and insurance businesses. Lynda spent her retirement years at Sav-a-Life Shelby counseling ladies in crisis pregnancies and leading them to the Lord.
Lynda loved the Lord with all her heart, and nothing made her happier than to tell others about His saving grace. She told numerous stories of the times she shared the gospel with ladies at the pregnancy center, checkout clerks, or servers at restaurants she frequented. She delighted in her grandchildren and spent many hours making memories with them on vacations, special outings, watching movies, and swimming in her pool.
Lynda enjoyed studying the Bible, crocheting, painting, playing piano, spoiling her grandchildren, singing with her friends in the Evangel Church choir, and relaxing on the beach with a great book.
Lynda was predeceased by her father, Howard Raughton Baker, mother, Sylvia McCord Baker, her husband of 53 years, Edmund Phillips Blackwell, and daughter, Laura Lee Blackwell Fulton.
Survivors include one son, Edmund Phillips Blackwell, Jr., and his wife Kristi; one brother, Charles Edwards Baker and his wife Andrea; one sister, Beverly Dian Baker Kendall; four grandchildren: Alexandria Elizabeth Fulton Feemster (Conner), Abby Lauralee Blackwell, Hays Edmund Blackwell and his partner Breanna Ethredge, Logan Phillips Blackwell; and one great-grandson, Sammul James Edmund Ethredge.
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and love to Lynda’s beloved niece, Susan Baker Price, for the months of selfless, devoted, loving care she showed Lynda during her illness. We would be remiss not to thank Susan’s family for their sacrifice in lending Susan to us.
We would also like to thank Hope Hospice nurses Amanda, Hilary, and Kristine for their gentle kindness in attending to Lynda.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Evangel Presbyterian Church PCA in Alabaster, with Celebration of Life immediately following at 2:00 PM at the church. Rev. Jeff Lowman and Rev. Alex Goodsell will officiate. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to Sav-a-Life Shelby or Evangel Presbyterian Church PCA.
