

Mac Douglas Heslop, 93, of Hoover, Alabama passed away with family at bedside on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He was born May 31, 1924 in Marietta, Ohio and married Almeda McConnell on July 20, 1944. Mac was a loving husband to Almeda for 73 years, and an exemplary father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who prepared his children for personal and professional success through his lessons of personal discipline, strong work ethic, and unwavering character.
Son of Herbert Gale and Isabelle McWhirter Heslop, Mac served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and upon discharge became a flight instructor. He spent 40 years in domestic and international sales with NCR, formerly headquartered in Dayton, Ohio.
Mac was predeceased by his wife Almeda, and is survived by his 3 children: Bill Heslop (wife Pat), Jim Heslop (wife Dee Dee), and Kathie Smith (husband Ed); his 9 grandchildren: Stephanie Mack (husband Bill), Eric Heslop (wife Katherine), Jeff Smith (wife Jessika), Clay Heslop (wife Ashley), Alecia Self, Brian Heslop (wife Jennifer), Melissa Bowser (husband Tim), Scott Heslop, and Ben Heslop (wife Anne); and his 17 great-grandchildren: Andrew Mack, Ava Heslop, Gracie Bowser, Lauren Mack, Connor Mac Smith, Wilson Heslop, Courtney Smith, Sydney Heslop, Alec Heslop, Davis Bowser, Paxton Heslop, Madison Mack, Brenna Jane Heslop, Morgan Mack, Thomas Heslop, Barrett Heslop, and Audrey Heslop.
Public services will be Monday, May 21, 2018 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama 35124. Visitation will be held in the Chapel between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial celebration. Private burial services will occur earlier in the day at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverchase United Methodist Church, in memory of Mac D. Heslop, 1953 Old Highway 31, Hoover, Alabama 35244.
