Mark Allan Nilson, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 21, 2024. He was born in Aurora, Nebraska on June 5, 1937 to Victor Rudolph Nilson and Lola Phoebe Bogseth Nilson who preceded him in death.
Mark was also preceded in death by his precious and loving wife, Delores Ericson Nilson; his son-in-law, Glen Gilson; and two brothers, V. Robert Nilson and Erick Nilson. Four days after Mark's death, his older brother, Lyle Nilson, joined him in heaven.
Mark is survived by his close and loving family that includes his son, Victor Allan Nilson (Heidi), and two grandsons, Mark Allan Nilson II and Victor Wyatt Nilson; one daughter, Lori Nilson Gilson, grandson, Bryant Matthew Gilson, and granddaughter, Katelyn Grace Gilson; as well as many other family members he cherished.
Mark would recount many happy memories, as well as funny stories, of growing up on his family’s farm. He attended a country school with his older brother, Lyle, and then graduated from Aurora High school. He attended the University of Nebraska where he met the love of his life, Delores, at the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He also attended DeVry University in Chicago, Illinois.
Mark and Delores were married August 26, 1961 and moved many times over their lifetime together living in New Mexico, Alabama, California, Idaho, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Mark adored Delores and together, they created a loving family that loves the Lord.
As an Electronics Engineer, Mark enjoyed technology and science and his lifelong work was in this field. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, he was quickly promoted to work as an Engineer at the White Sands Missile Base. He worked as an Electronics Engineer as well as an Instructor of Navigational Aids and Computers at the Federal Aviation Administration Academy.
Mark loved the outdoors, animals, and gardening. He was an avid reader and he passionately promoted topics that were close to his heart including his faith in Christ, theology, creation science, technology, health, politics, and gardening. He was adamant that the Bible is the only absolute source of truth. He longed to always seek more knowledge of God, and one of his favorite passages was Habakkuk 2:14, “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
Mark is now in the presence of his Lord and is fully experiencing what he longed to know.
The family will have a private celebration of Mark's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations made to ministries that were close to Mark's heart: Voice of the Martyrs (www.persecution.com ), Biblical Blueprints (www.biblicalblueprints.com), and ECHO (echonet.org).
