Martha Barham Steele

Martha Otis Barham Steele, age 91, of Birmingham, Alabama passed from this life to her eternal home on Sunday, August 18, 2024. She was born near Philadelphia, Mississippi on May 19, 1933 to her mother, Edna Foy Barham. Her father, Otis Barham, died in an accident prior to her birth.

Martha was married to her husband, Charles Edward Steele, for 72 years before his death September 29, 2022.

She was a hard-working and devoted wife, stay-at-home mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved all of her family, siblings, church family, and God, and was a long-time member of Pelham Church of Christ.

Martha will be remembered for her love of cooking. She wanted you to be fed . . . no matter who you were.

She will also be remembered for her love of laughter. She could find humor in almost anything, and it was contagious.

Gardening, yardwork, and sewing were Martha's other favorite activities. Her family says there wasn't a lazy bone in her body.

Martha is survived by her children, Kathy (Phil) Thomas, Sandy Mathis, Pam Piper, Emily (Paul) Bradshaw, and Randy Steele; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Martha at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
