
Mary Skipper Best, (Bayar), age 94, wife of the late Kermit Best, formerly residing in Columbus, Ga. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 4, 2018 in her home in Birmingham, Al. Mary was born in Ashford, Al. and attended Ashford high school. She lived most of her life in Columbus, Ga. and worked as a cosmetologist at her own French’s Beauty school. Later she served as Hostess at both First Baptist Church of Columbus for over 20 years as well as the Womens’ Club of Columbus. She was also a faithful member of the Elaine Hammond Sunday School class at First Baptist. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, knitting, making Sourdough bread, sewing as well as antiquing and being with friends and family. She is remembered for her sweet, quiet spirit and endless spunkiness. She was frequently admired for her sense of style. Her family remembers her positive outlook on life as well as being a wonderful cook and listener.
She is pre-deceased by her son, Douglas MacArthur Best, sister, Brunice Brannon, and niece, Janice Brannon. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Heyser; grandson, Tim Best (Sheila ), great grandchildren Katie and Ashley; granddaughter Shelley Best, great grandchildren Michelle Russell (Michael), Maria Smith (Jamie), and Justin Best; granddaughter Jennie White (Kerry), great grandchildren, Evan, Aliyah, and Josiel White. Nieces and nephews Charles Brannon( Sallie), Glenn Brannon (Sharon), Bill Heyser (Kristen), Susan Johnson-(Todd ). Great grandnephews and grandnieces - Jonathon Brannon, Natalie LaScala, Beth Brannon, Josh Brannon, Robin Radley, Aubrey Lewis, Hayley Heyser, Sarah Morgan Johnson, Todd Johnson, Anna Layne Johnson, and Mary Scott Johnson. A memorial service celebrating her life will be August 9th, at 11:00 a.m. First Baptist Church, Columbus, Ga.
