

Mayo Virginia (Stagner) Rush, age 94, of Alabaster, Alabama passed away at her home, surrounded by her children on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Mayo was born February 1, 1928, in Saginaw, Alabama to the late, George W. and Mattie Stagner. Mayo received her formal education at Camp Branch and Thompson High School. She was married to her late husband, Samuel F. Guy in 1947. She was blessed with four daughters and one son. Growing up, Mayo worked for Siluria Mills and Western Supermarket. In year of 1970, she married her late husband, A.B. Rush, who preceded her in death in the year of 2000. At the age of 85 she retired as a shampoo assistant at Hair for All Reasons. Mayo was a member of Siluria Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking Banana Pudding, Chicken Dumplings, Cobblers and Chocolate pie. Mayo loved shopping, going to church, spending time with her family and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Stagner and Mattie Martha Jane; daughter, Virginia Dian Boykin; her sister, Estelle Allen; three brothers, Robert Stagner, John Stagner and Jimmy Stagner; two sons-in-law, Amos Bentley and Terry Hammonds.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Martha Bentley, Sammie Kay Guy, Mickey Johnson and Elaine Hammonds; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Mayo will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. A graveside service will occur Friday, February 11, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Elliottsville Cemetery, 845 Hwy 119, Alabaster, AL 35007.
