He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 22, 1935, to the late Henry and Rosedale Knecht.
Millard proudly served in the United States Army in the 173 Airborne as a Ranger and a Green Beret. He retired in 1978 with 22 years of service. Millard was a member of Metropolitan Church of God and the American Legion, Bessemer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Rowland Knecht and Clifford Knecht. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 22 years, Patsy Ruth Knecht and daughter, Linda Kizziah and sons, Richard Knecht and Mark Puls; daughters, Tina Womack; Eileen Oravic; Laura Coleman; and Phyllis Barnett; along with ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Knecht.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, February 10, 2020, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm. A burial with full military honors will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
