Neal Alexander Farmer

Neal attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1948, and also attained Brotherhood Rank in the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Tusculum College in Tusculum, TN in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics. Following graduation he joined the Marine Corps and served as a Captain Naval Aviator. After his military service Neal began his career as an actuary, serving as VP and President for multiple life insurance companies. In 1982 he founded Management Data, Inc. in Birmingham, AL from which he later retired in 2005.

Neal was united in holy matrimony with Patricia Kilday on December 26, 1954 in Greene County, TN. Their union was blessed with two children, John and Susan. Neal and Patricia enjoyed a wonderful marriage for over 50 years until her passing in 2006. He remarried to Sallie Cole in 2008 with whom he spent 15 joyous years with before her passing in 2023. In his leisure he enjoyed woodworking and volunteering at the local fire department. Neal would say his greatest achievements are his two successful marriages, his two children, his grandchildren, and extended family.

Neal is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jane Farmer; his first wife, Patricia Farmer; his second wife, Sallie Farmer; his brother, Jim Farmer; and his son, John Farmer. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Sulzby; his daughter-in-law, Shannon Davis(Michael); his grandchildren, Jessica Newton(Kolby), Katie Farmer(Colby), Loyd Farmer(Reagan), Kevin Davis; and numerous other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 12pm with the funeral service beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Cemetery in Columbiana, AL.
