Mrs. Nikki Stokes Blair, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, was born on February 1, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama, and passed away on January 12, 2026. She was the beloved daughter of the late James Hyatt Stokes and the late Gay Adams Stokes of Clanton, Alabama.
Nikki grew up in Clanton, AL. She graduated from Chilton County High School, attended Birmingham-Southern College, and later transferred to The University of Alabama and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. She joined Pi Beta Phi sorority forming several lifelong friends. She went on to earn a master’s degree in special education from The University of Alabama in Birmingham. Nikki was one of the first special education teachers in Jefferson County public schools in the mid-1970s. She taught at Shades Cahaba Elementary School in Homewood. She later taught at Vestavia Hills High School and also spent many years as a business owner and manager of Storkland Baby & Kid Furniture. Nikki was creative and innovative, with a gift for building something meaningful wherever the Lord placed her. She was a hardworking, determined, caring, and thoughtful person.
Nikki married the love of her life, George Stanley Blair (Stan), in 1973, and moved to Mobile, Alabama and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and family. Nikki met her lifelong best friend, Rosemary, while teaching in Mobile, Alabama. The Lord blessed Nikki with a true soul sister and they talked daily for 52 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her grandchildren lovingly called her “KK,” and she treasured every moment with them—especially shopping for her grandbabies, laughing with them, and making each one feel deeply cherished. Nikki also loved time at Smith Lake, where many sweet family memories were made. She loved traveling, gardening, Alabama football, sunsets, and celebrating anything. Nikki was an amazing storyteller, always recalling every detail.
For the past 25 years, she was a devoted member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where she loved her Sunday School class and served in many ministries. Before joining Briarwood, Nikki was a longtime member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for more than 20 years.
