Born on April 20, 1935, in Montgomery, Alabama, Nina's life was a symphony of music and art. She graduated summa cum laude from Margaret Booth School in 1951, foreshadowing a lifetime of academic and creative excellence. Nina continued her education at Abilene Christian College, earning a BA degree in piano in 1955, cementing her lifelong dedication to music.
Music was the cornerstone of Nina's life. From her first piano lesson at age 6 to playing well into her seventies, she never lost her love for the instrument. During the 1970s and 1980s, Nina shared her passion by teaching piano to children from her home, inspiring countless young musicians and fostering a love for music in her community.
Nina's artistic talents extended beyond the piano. As a skilled painter and member of the "Cobb Lane Art Group," she explored various media, including paint and charcoal. Her artwork, which she exhibited and sold, touched many lives, and brought beauty to the world around her.
Nina's greatest composition was her family. She is survived by her two children, Ken Pitchford (Gigi) and Kay Simon (Scott), who were the light of her life. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Christopher Pitchford (Brittany) and Austin Pitchford (Emily), and her great-grandchild, Urban Pitchford (Christopher and Brittany). Nina also leaves behind numerous cousins and friends who were blessed by her presence in their lives.
Nina was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Glenn Edward "Ed" Pitchford, Jr. Ed and Nina built a strong partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests. They supported each other's passions. Together, they created a warm home environment for their family. Their long-lasting marriage served as an example of commitment to those around them.
Details regarding Nina’s memorial service is forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Nina's honor to the Shelby County Humane Society, reflecting her compassion for animals.
Nina Pitchford's legacy of kindness, creativity, and unconditional love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. Her melodies will continue to play in the lives she touched, and her artistic vision will live on through her works. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a woman who brought beauty, harmony, and love to the world around her.
