Obie Jack McCutchen

Jack was born on August 20th, 1948, in Birmingham, AL. He graduated from West End High School and married his high school sweetheart Muriel Fowler on October 22nd, 1966. Through 57 years of marriage, Jack and Muriel’s devoted and tender love sustained a warm and close-knit family, consisting of three children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

After graduating from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Jack embarked on a successful career in the heavy equipment industry. He eventually started his own successful company, Machinery Systems Incorporated, in April 1997. Though Jack enjoyed many successes throughout his career, he would be the first to tell you that the many relationships and dear friendships that were fostered throughout his professional career added to the bounty of his life.

Jack had many interests that included golf, travelling, fishing and, later in life, painting. However, his favorite loves were his Heavenly Father, his loving wife Muriel (who he adored), his family, and finally Auburn University (War Eagle!).

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Obie and Ann McCutchen and a sister, Nancy Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife Muriel McCutchen. A sister Carolyn Gwin. His Son Josh McCutchen (Sara). And his Daughters Jackie Morris and Jeanie Prichard (Rhett).

A remembrance of Jack’s life will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery, on Thursday December 21st, 2023. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., with the service to start thereafter.

Jack’s generous, kind, and selfless spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He will be missed, but we rejoice knowing he is in Paradise!

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, as a celebration of Jack’s generous spirit throughout his life, that a donation be made to your favorite charity.

A visitation for Jack will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
