Peggy Holley Bliss

She was born in Shreveport, LA on September 23, 1936, to the late Dorothy “Granny” Burns and William Pratt “Pop” Holley. Also preceding her in death is her brother, James D. Holley.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 63 years, Robert Benson Bliss, Sr.; two daughters, Holley Bliss Whaley (Tim); and Susan Bliss Bezkor (Bill); one son, Robert Benson Bliss, Jr; seven grandchildren, MSgt Clayton Stewart Dykes (Shelley) of Sneeds Ferry, NC; Marie Elizabeth Phillips (Edward) of Yuma, AZ; Andrew William Dykes of New York City, NY; Andrea Caroline Bliss (Charlotte); Robert “Trey” Benson Bliss III; William Theodore Bezkor; and Sara Grace Bezkor of Hilton Head, SC; six great-grandchildren, Eva Faith Dykes; Clayton Paul Dykes; Ezekiel Robert Dykes; Elizabeth Jennifer Phillips; Edward William Phillips; and Natalia Lee Phillips. She is also survived by a brother, Tom Holley (Jan); and sister-in-law, Linda Holley.

Peggy was a 1954 graduate of Woodlawn High School and retired from O’Toole Engineering as the office manager. She was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church and O’Toole Sunday school class. Peggy enjoyed working with the youth at church where she was also a member of the choir. She was a wonderful mother to her own children and to others, as a Cub Scout leader and assistant director at Camp Winnetaska. She took great pride in being a Navy wife and hosted many teas and showers. She especially adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and relished loving on babies. She will be missed so much by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Oasis Hospice and their caregivers on the compassionate care, love, and attention given to Peggy.

Funeral services will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, December 23, 2019, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. After, she will be laid to rest at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
